Florida DOT Selects BlueTOAD®
FDOT proposes high-tech solution to traffic problems on University Parkway
MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – March 17, 2015 - Lakewood Ranch resident Kathryn De Young is frustrated with the traffic along University parkway at the I-75 interchange -- and she is far from alone. In response, FDOT is partnering with Sarasota and Manatee counties to supply high tech devices called the Insync Traffic Signal Adaptive System.
"It is a real time program that monitors the traffic and that can change the light whenever its needed." FDOT will also purchase what's called BlueToad, another advanced piece of technology that directly determines travel time and road speeds by matching Bluetooth® signals from passing vehicles.
"The emphasis on this BlueToad is that it only measures when a Bluetooth® signal goes by."
FDOT will pay approximately $500,000 for all the equipment. Both counties conducted studies before this plan was implemented and will also evaluate its effectiveness when the project is complete.
